There is so much to see in the Ancient City of Rome, Italy, that you may find yourself in need of a rest from your hectic and active vacation. If this is the case, do as the Romans do - head to the public parks. One of the most beautiful locations for a rest, a stroll or a picnic is the Villa Borghese.
The Villa Borghese is a palazzo with both formal gardens and extensive grounds that has been turned into different public spaces. The actual villa has been transformed into a museum, the highlights of which include three amazing pieces of sculpture by Bernini. But whether or not the museum is on your itinerary, there is plenty to enjoy at Villa Borghese.
You can watch the horses being ridden around the Galoppataoio or a game of calcio (football or in America, soccer) being played by local school children. The Giardino di Lago, or the Lake Garden, is a particularly beautiful location where you can even rent a boat for a romantic row across the water.
The park is easily accessed from the public transportation services, as a number of buses have stops either directly inside or near the entrance to the park. The park is also an easy walk from the Flaminio stop on line ‘A’ of the metro.
