Musee Du Louvre - Paris

One of the largest museums in the world, the louver at Paris houses over 40,000 pieces of art and sculpture. This is the home of some of the world's most famous paintings. The building is composed of over 60,000 square feet and is contained in sections by artist and exhibit. The glass pyramid of the Louvre can be seen from the Siene, where the museum is located on the Right Bank.

Here you will be able to view Leonardo da Vinci's Mona Lisa. It would take weeks to see everything this spectacular museum has to offer, so choose wisely and be sure to ask for a map. Retreat to a quiet corner and plan your tour, or join one of the many tours that go on throughout the day, designed to highlight the most popular and rare works of art.

Philippe-Auguste designed and built the museum in the late 12th century originally as a fortress to keep away Norman invaders. Later the building became a palace for Louis XIV and remained a home for royalty for many centuries. Even then it was a showcase for collected art and sculpture throughout the reigns of kings and the ages of art. It seems as though everyone had a hand in designing and bringing the museum to the fruition we see today, even Napoleon added a wing in the 1850's
