Centre Pompidou - Paris

After several years of restoration, the Centre Pompidou is now attracting crowds again. Art lovers from all over the world come to the newly redesigned building for a tour of some of the most Avant -Garde artwork. Former president Georges Pompidou commissioned the building to house modern artwork and the design is by Richard Rogers and Renzo Piano. The original building was considered such an eyesore by the neighboring community that it was redesigned and opened 20 years later.

With the renovation came a rooftop café and almost 5,000 extra feet of exhibition space. There are several boutiques and many small auditoriums for screening new independent films. Live theater and musicals are held here as well.

There are five main attractions at the Centre Pompidou so plan your day well ahead of time. The National Museum of Modern Art is located here, The Public information building and the Center for Industrial design. The Institute for Research and Coordination of Acoustics/Music is located on the main floor and features a free entertainment center for local artists and musicians to showcase their talents for weekend audiences.
