New York Shopping - New York

There is certainly no lack of places to shop in New York. Madison Avenue, for example, includes such department stores as Saks, Bloomingdale’s and Macy’s. When shopping in New York, be sure to wear comfortable shoes, and if you plan to shop in the high-end stores, dress well if you want to be treated right. Remember, though, that New York has more stores that you can hope to visit in just a weekend. Fifth Avenue is one of the most famous shopping streets worldwide, but little is of interest south of 42nd Street where the majority of stores are souvenir shops. The one exception is Lord & Taylor at 38th Street. Other possibilities include Ferragamo at 52nd Street, Brooks Brothers at 53rd, and Gucci at 54th. For the jewelry lover, visit the "Diamond District" on 47th Street between Fifth and Sixth Avenues. Farther up Fifth Street you’ll find major jewelers such as H. Stern, Cartier, Bulgari, and Fortunoff.

On Madison, you’ll find Tiffany’s at 57th Street where the first floor displays $10,000 pieces. Also on 57th is Bergdorf Goodman with ladies clothing on one side of the street and men on the other. Also on Madison are Calvin Klein, Givenchy’s, and many more. The Soho area is another group of shops and boutiques that you won’t want to miss. You have to choose where you are going to go since there is just so much to see, but you especially want to visit during Christmas when all of the shops are elegantly decorated for the holidays.
