The Cabinet War Rooms are a mark of what the times have brought. With the advent of World War II came new types of destruction that even included airplanes. The threat of heavy planes attacking large cities within Europe was devastating. The creation of the Cabinet War Rooms was to provide protection to those that needed to stay in power to control the country and to provide for their protection. These war rooms were underground bunkers, safety locations that would protect anyone that was in them.
The Prime Minister, Winston Churchill would end up directing the war. The location was safe and provided for all that was needed to provide him with the ability to keep the country running even if there was to be an air strike to attempt to take out the government. Today, you can visit this location and marvel at what was used and how prepared they really were. The Cabinet War Rooms are open to the public for viewing at Clive Steps, King Charles Street. They are open daily for a fee except for holidays. A visit to this location is a visit to some of the best that London can offer in history of wartime. Well worth the admission price.
