Van Gogh Museum - Amsterdam

It would be a shame to travel to Amsterdam and not visit the popular Vincent Van Gogh Museum. The gallery walks provide the traveler a chance to compare his early works with the later ones, as the museum holds and displays the largest collection of the artists work in the world.

In addition to the vast Van Gogh collection, visitors will be able to view works from other artists of the 18th and 19th century. Plaques below each work tell the story of the individual artists in both Dutch and English, and if you so choose, you can pick up a thick pamphlet about the story of Van Gogh and follow it while watching a short video documentary of the artist's life.

The museum provides a multi-media tour which the visitor can take alone, or for a small fee you can take the guided tour of the museum, complete with not only the stories from Van Gogh, but the other artists featured at the museum as well. On the second floor there is a reading room where you can read up on Van Gogh, view audio and video tapes, and take the virtual tour of the museum. This is an excellent idea if you are having a hard time getting around, as the museum is vast and housed in two separate buildings--a great option for elderly, handicapped, or tourist with children. There is also a quaint café for your relaxation.
