The Stedlijk Museum - Amsterdam

This is Amsterdam's Modern Art Museum where you can view Dutch and Dutch American painter's works. The museum houses the largest collection of the abstract works of Kasimir Malevich outside of the former Soviet Union, along with pop art, modern culture art, and minimalist, and color -field painting. Artists and scholars of art come from all over the world to view and study these classic modernistic works.

The museum also contains a café where you can relax and view the art while sipping a coffee. The atmosphere is very laid back and quiet, a nice change from the hustle and bustle of the city's tourist's attractions, including the walking tours and tram stations.

Here you will find the complete works of Mondrian, including Composition in Red, Black, Blue, Yellow, and Gray from 1920, and the varied collection of a few years later (1922-23.) Along with this collection, you can view Van Gogh's "Monmartre", "Carnations", and "The Diggers."

NOTE: This museum is currently closed until mid 2006 while it undergoes renovation. The collections have been separated and moved to other museums around the city. Check with your tourism information center in Amsterdam to see where a specific collection is currently being held.
