Amsterdam Museums

No matter what age or interests, Amsterdam has a museum for everyone. History enthusiasts can see where history unfolded at the Anne Frank House, the place where Anne scribbled in her diary while hiding during World War II. If the history of Amsterdam is more interesting, try out Amsterdam Historical Museum, which shows off the city's history, both past and present. The Amsterdam Municipal Archives are open and free to the public.

If art is the craving of the hour, check out the Van Gogh Museum, which shows off the largest collection of artwork by Vincent Van Gogh and his coevals, or combine music with art at De Nieuwe Kerk, a Late Gothic building where organ concerts mesh with art exhibitions daily. It's also the spot where Dutch monarchs become inaugurated officially. If the theater is calling, stop by the Theatre Museum, where guests hear, see and feel the past and the present creative view of Dutch theater.

Teeter between fantasy and reality at NEMO, the science center, Tuesday through Sundays beginning at 10:00 or traipse around the Royal Palace, which originally was the Town Hall of Amsterdam but is now used by the queen and is sometimes open to the public. See The Old Church, the oldest monument in Amsterdam, a beautiful medieval church with fascinating history and is open to visitors. It features gravestones, like that of Remrandt's first wife, and two organs dating back to 1724. There is something to see in each of the museums in Amsterdam.
