MUSEUM HET REMBRANDTHUIS (REMBRANDT HOUSE) - Amsterdam

Museum Het Rembrandthuis is the house where the famous Dutch artist Rembrandt lived between 1639 and 1658. The home dates back to the early 1600’s and a remodeling was done by the architect that designed the royal Dutch palace in Dam square. Rembrandt bought the house in 1639, and lived their until 1658, when it had to be sold off to pay his mounting debts. The museum was formed in 1911, after the Dutch government bought the house and attempted to restore it to the condition it was in when Rembrandt lived there. Not until 1998, with the purchase of adjacent land, was the museum foundation able to fully restore the home to its original size and condition

Fortunately for visitors, through loans and sales, the museum has been able to acquire almost all of the etchings done by Rembrandt in his time. In addition to these beautiful pieces, visitors will find drawings and paintings by Rembrandt, his teacher, and his contemporaries at the time. Guests of the museum will also be able to partake in painting and etching classes teaching students the techniques and tools used in the 17th century. Those guests looking to find out more about the life and works of Rembrandt can also visit the Rembrandt information center to study the vast library there on his works and history. The museum is also available for weddings, private parties, dinners, and business lunches.
