The Erotisch Museum, or Erotic Museum, is located in Amsterdam and reflects an artistic view of the erotica throughout the world. With five floors filled with a collection of erotic art and other erotic goodies, the museum showcases the history of erotica. Located in the glowing neon of the Red Light District, it is a popular attraction for an 'alternative' museum option.
The museum highlights the history of erotica with both modern and master artists' works that provide different points of views on the subject. The different floors in the museum show off unique postcards, photographs and an abundance of erotic books, a fairytale corner with erotic videos, and a complete collection of sadistic-masochistic scenes and objects. Among the collection's features are an early version of a wind-up vibrator still in original packaging, some Picasso prints, and a set of erotic drawings given to Yoko Ono by John Lennon on their wedding day. The original entrance of the Casa Rosso Theatre is shown on one of the floors.
The Erotic Museum is an open and sometimes entertaining way of looking at erotica through the ages. Some of the photographs are graphic, most of them realistic, and visitors should be reminded that this is museum filled with adult content. Admission is 4.50 guilders and the museum is open daily from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 p.m.
